How does the Feed-X work?
The G-15 model automatic electrical tape reel allows a gate passage of up to 15 meters wide. The automatic retractor, which was developed specifically for this purpose, is - in addition to being very user-friendly - also ideal for demarcating entire parts of a pasture. This model offers you the highest flexibility among automatic electric fence openers. In this way, other corners of the meadow where the horses should have their feeding area can be fenced in without much effort.
Depending on which variant of the timer you choose, you can delay the automatic opening of the pasture gate by up to 12 hours into the future. To do this, the timer is simply wound up to the desired opening time, like an egg timer set and the gate handle is hooked into the timer – that’s it!
All components of the electric fence opener are purely mechanical. In addition to its robustness, this means that no batteries or power cables are required to operate the automatic gate opener and reel, making the Feed-X not only extremely practical but also completely maintenance-free.
How does the automatic electrical tape reel work?
Although the Feed-X electrical tape reel looks almost like a normal reel at first glance, technically it is a completely different product. The automatic electrical tape reel was developed specifically for automatic electric fence opening. This was necessary because the spring of conventional retractors regularly breaks due to the lack of human braking power. In addition, there is the usual high retraction speed Normal reels pose a risk of injury for this purpose. The Feed-X G-15, on the other hand, is equipped with a specially developed centrifugal brake that ensures an appropriately slowed feed speed of the electrical steel. This technology was tested and developed over decades until the system was finally mature and very durable.
How do I mount the Feed-X?
Thanks to the included quick assembly set, assembly is completely uncomplicated. In fact, it only takes two very easy steps to set up. In the first step, the timer is mounted on the desired wooden post using two screws. The timer is designed so that it can be used on both the right and left sides. The scope of delivery includes everything necessary for assembly and commissioning.
Then, in the second step, the holder for the electrical tape reel is screwed to another wooden post. This can stand or be placed up to 15 meters away from the first wooden post. In order to remain flexible in the pasture, mobile post supports can also be used, similar to those used for parasols. How does the mechanical timer work?
When it comes to the timer, you can choose between the Feed-X GT-6 and the GT-12. The only difference between them is that they allow you either a delay of up to 6 or 12 hours. The timers are suitable for all Feed-X solutions. From a technical point of view, its purely mechanical structure works similarly to that of an egg timer. Therefore, no power supply is required for operation and failures are avoided. In addition, the device has been designed in such a way that rain and snow do not cause any problems as the device is completely sealed and ventilated. Thanks to the associated quick-release device, tool-free removal is also possible.
After extensive testing, the triggering of the timer's hooking device was provided with a maximum resistance force of 2 kilograms. This value was chosen so that if a horse were to get the idea to break through, the electrical tape would be released immediately. This allows damage and injuries to be avoided as best as possible.
How was the Feed-X developed?
The founded in 1985, Swedish family company SCS Swedish Control System AB, tried out a variety of different ideas during the development phase of the automatic electric fence opener. From elastic ropes to spring gates to standard electrical tape reels with different braking strengths. But either the wire or tape was pulled back far too quickly, causing the spring to break, or the components for the automatic electric fence opener were far too expensive.
For decades Experiments and setbacks had to be endured in order to finally find the ingenious concept of the centrifugal brake. The elevator speed could be adjusted so that the risk of damage or injuries can now be avoided as much as possible.
