Depending on the composition of the ration, performance requirements, illnesses and age, the need for important trace elements such as zinc, copper and manganese can change significantly. In particular, horses with hyperacidity in the large intestine, instability of the intestinal flora, stressed horses, old horses, eczema and allergy sufferers have an increased need. According to the latest findings, a deficit in the trace element balance is more common than expected. When feeding a standard ration of basic feed and conventional supplementary feed, the needs for zinc, copper and selenium in particular are often not sufficiently covered. Even due to overused pasture areas, which are often only fertilized in one direction, our horses do not have more than the diverse nutrient supply they need. However, it takes a lot of time for a defect to become clear. In order to counteract these nutritional deficits, trace elements should be fed in a targeted manner in order to avoid an oversupply of energy and starch by increasing the conventional grass feed ration.
